Normalizing Birthdays, One Child At A Time
Posted by Kelly Friedl on
Do you remember the night before your birthday as a child? The excitement as you tried (and failed) to fall asleep quickly, knowing tomorrow would be your special day. For many of us, these memories are wrapped in the warmth of familiar comforts – our favorite pajamas, a warm bed, and a well-loved stuffie. As parents, we get to create this same magic for our little ones. We carefully arrange their presents, prep their favorite breakfast, and make sure their day starts with all the comfort and joy we can provide. These moments remind us how the simplest things can shape our children's memories and sense of security.
A Different Reality
Unfortunately, the reality for more than 2.5 million children in the United States is that these simple comforts aren't guaranteed. Many are experiencing homelessness in shelters or food insecurity. Often, circumstances beyond their parent’s control – like rising rent costs or a family medical crisis – have disrupted their daily routines as well as their access to life's basic comforts and celebrations.
Creating Birthday Magic
Today, we want to introduce you to an organization that has stepped in to help create special birthday memories for these families and children.
The Birthday Party Project believes that every child, regardless of circumstance, deserves to feel the joy and excitement on their special day. Their mission is bringing joy to children experiencing homelessness through the magic of birthday celebrations.
These aren't just parties. They're powerful moments of normalcy and joy during challenging times. When families are in transition, The Birthday Party Project shows up consistently to make sure that every birthday is celebrated, every child is seen, and no special day falls through the cracks.
Since 2012, volunteers and partners have been making an impact with The Birthday Party Project.
• Over 28,000 birthday kids celebrated
• More than 3,600 parties hosted
• 75,000 children who have attended celebrations
A Birthday Pillow in Each Child’s Bag!
We're proud to partner with The Birthday Party Project in creating these moments of joy and comfort for children who need them most. Together, we believe in the power of small comforts and special celebrations to make a big difference in children's lives.
At Urban Infant, we believe that comfort and joy go hand in hand. Most of us don't think twice about various pillows piled on our beds, but many children don't have even a single pillow to call their own. That's why we created our "Get Sleep. Give Sleep" initiative. For every Tot Cot® purchased, we donate a pillow to a child in need. That means, for every Birthday Party Bag that is shipped, the Urban Infant has a pillow tucked inside!
