It’s Snuggly Season: Indoor Activities to the Rescue!
Posted by Urban Infant Team onIt’s too cold to spend time outside, it’s getting dark long before bedtime, and your little ones have enough energy to power a small city. Sound familiar? When neighborhood park visits and outdoor activities aren't an option, it's time to get creative with indoor activities. Here are a few ideas to turn the stuck-inside winter days into cozy adventures.
Movie Night Magic
Turn your living room into the best movie spot in town with the help of your kiddo's Bulkie Sleep Mat. Roll it out in front of the TV and tuck your little one in with their favorite stuffy and a special snack. Throw a fuzzy blanket on the couch for yourself, and you're in for the coziest family movie night of the year. Don’t forget your popcorn!
Indoor Camping Day
Who says camping is just for summer? Build a blanket fort, add your Bulkie as a sleeping bag, grab some flashlights, and settle in for story time or some pretend play. If you’re feeling extra adventurous, string some twinkle lights around your fort and serve "campfire" snacks like indoor s'mores (graham crackers with chocolate spread and marshmallow fluff - no fire needed!)
The Great Room Swap
Sometimes a simple change of scenery is all it takes to cure a case of cabin fever. Why not let your kiddo have a "sleepover" in a different room of the house? Help them roll up their Bulkie into a backpack and follow them around the house as they decide on the perfect spot to sleep. Sleeping in a parent or sibling’s room for a night can be an exciting adventure for little ones. Or maybe they’ll pick somewhere that surprises you, like under the dining room table.
Indoor Obstacle Course
Help your little ones burn some energy indoors when it’s freezing outside. Use cushions, pillows, and couch cushions as obstacles to crawl under or hop over. Create a "balance beam" with masking tape on the floor and make tunnels with chairs and blankets.
Glow Stick Dance Party
Turn off the lights, crack some glow sticks, and turn up your favorite tunes. Make bracelets and necklaces with the glow sticks, play freeze dance, or create glowing shapes on the floor.
Mini Art Gallery
Turn your hallway into an art museum by taping your child’s art all along the wall for a day. Let them tell you about each piece and ask them to name their favorites. Bonus Tip: Next time you have a family gathering, host an art “auction” where your little one’s adoring fans (Grandparents, Aunts, and Uncles) can bid on their favorite art pieces with one dollar bills!
Luckily, snuggly season doesn’t last forever. Use these ideas to occasionally break up your long winter days, and remember not to be too hard on yourself if most days aren’t full of perfect, carefully-crafted adventures. Feel free to also send this list to Grandma and Grandpa with a few suggestions of dates they could come pick up their favorite grandchild for some snuggly adventures?! And don’t forget to send the Bulkie Sleep Mat with them!
